Graduated with a First class degree  in 2023 from University of Northampton (Bachelor of Arts). Was living in  Long Buckby Northampton, where we also ran a successful and busy  art studio and taught art workshops to adults and children . We also undertook commissions and also offered bespoke framing. I aim to continue these services once our premises in France are complete.

BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting and Drawing 

My  practice explores the mystery and fascination around water and the reflection and distortion created by the light and the figure within the water. There is an obsession with the allure of the unknown, the abstract playing with the representational. Memories relating to the quietness and muffled sounds under the water’s surface, memories of childhood swimming in outdoor pools. 

My exploration begins from my family memories, holiday snaps and videos taken above and below the swimming pool water. The process then develops through the cropping and editing of these images to create studies for oil paintings. The emphasis is to create a fluidity between the water and the human form, abstracted bodies coming to life in the reflective light within the water. This series “Pool paintings” is my current evolving practice.

I have responded to works by Eric Fischl and especially his paintings of pool and beach scenes which often include his friends and family as muses. I am also drawn towards a similar, vibrant colour palette. Fischl strives to put the viewer into his paintings through familiarity and memory in the same way I strive to do so. I am also informed by artists Bill Viola, Tania Kovats and Susan Derges each of whom, in their own varied ways, deal with water as a subject in their work.

I am constantly looking for different ideas, and often take a snapshot or video when I see something that inspires me for future works especially of the ocean and the movement of the waves.  I often use stills from these videos to capture a fleeting moment in time to create my work.
